EASTERN CAPE - CRIMINAL ARRESTED FOR HUMANSDORP FARM ROBBERY AFTER POLICE RECIEVE TIP-OFF



Police acted swiftly and apprehended a man on receiving positive information. A 34-year-old man was nabbed for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Tuesday, 2 May 2017 around 21:00.  Police on patrol acted on information of a man carrying a bag with a firearm entering a certain house in Nomzamo area, Humansdorp.  The police followed up the information and arrested a 34-year-old man for possession of an illegal firearm and 13 rounds of ammunition.  Police with the assistance of a CCTV footage, managed to link the man to a house robbery incident that was reported on Monday, 1 May 2017 in Humansdorp around 18:20.

The complainant in the house robbery incident alleged that three men, one with a firearm, stormed into her house situated on Villa Fonte farm about 45km outside Humansdorp.  An owner activated a security alarm, and the three suspects managed to grab a cellphone before fleeing on foot.  Following the arrest, police detectives managed to arrest a second house robbery suspect today around 08:00.  The two men aged 34 and 24 are to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Thursday, 4 May 2017 on charges of house robbery, and one suspect to face an additional charge of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier John Lebok said: “The police are commended for the arrests, but a message of gratitude goes to a resident who heeded police calls for people to report criminal activities.  The information that was shared with the police resulted in a breakthrough to another serious case, which could have been fatal.  Police would like to encourage more people with information about illegal firearms to share it with the police.
