EASTERN CAPE - 2 DIE IN PLANE CRASH ON THE WAY TO PLETTENBERG BAY

Two people have been killed in an aircraft crash in the Palmietvlei mountains on Wednesday.

The pilot,  a man in his fifties sustained serious injuries.

The Cessna 186 aircraft was flying to Plettenberg Bay, confirmed AK Munilal, director of the EMS in the Eastern Cape.

A helicopter operating in the area spotted the wrecked plane.

According to News24, two paramedics were hoisted down with an SAAF helicopter close to the wreckage as the terrain was mountainous and dense with wet bushes that made it difficult to negotiate.

The pilot was found in an upright position. “It was evident that he struggled to reach that position and was trapped sitting there because his right foot was badly injured,” Munilal said.

He was in an intense amount of pain. He was unable to speak when they discovered him.  He was airlifted to St George’s Hospital in Port Elizabeth.

The other two passengers, who had succumb to their injuries were mangled in the wreckage.

They were aged 50 and 75.
