A 39-year-old suspect is in a Port Elizabeth hospital under police guard after he allegedly attempted to stab a policewoman, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.
Police spokesperson, Constable Mncedi Mbombo, said the man was shot by the constable on Friday morning at a liquor store in Motherwell.
Mbombo said that it was alleged that the suspect who was inside the liquor store, broke a bottle of brandy and approached the 32-year-old woman to stab her.
“The constable drew out her firearm and ordered him to put the bottle kop down. But he came straight towards her and she shot him on the upper body.”
It is further alleged that the suspect was at the premises with the intention to rob the liquor shop.
The suspect will appear in court on charges of malicious damage to property and attempted murder.
