NORTH END - ALLEGED FRAUDSTER GETS 8 YEAR SENTENCE AFTER STEALING CLOSE TO R900 000

FROM an unapproved company cellphone contract to the transfer of hundreds of thousands of rands into her personal bank accounts, Mavolene Kriel slowly stole close to R900 000 from KnitMesh SA and will now spend eight years in prison.

She was convicted of fraud and theft in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court.

Magistrate Louis Claassen said yesterday that as an office administrator working with company finances, Kriel, 51, of Gelvandale, had been placed in a position of trust. She had abused this trust.

Kriel worked for KnitMesh SA between July 2012 and January 2014.

The company, in North End, provides knitted mesh products to the public.

Her duties included, among others, managing customer and supplier payments and managing electronic banking systems.
