The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro has demanded an explanation as to why South African Football Association (Safa) President Danny Jordaan was absent from Fifa's extraordinary congress.
The party says it finds it "intriguing" that Jordaan chose to miss the historic Zurich meeting yesterday, where Giani Infantino was elected as the new president of Fifa, succeeding former disgraced leader Sepp Blatter.
Safa says Jordaan did not attend because of municipality-related issues that needed his urgent attention.
The DA's Dean Biddulph says attending the Fifa congress could have been one way for Danny Jordaan to quash the Fifa bribery allegations.
“If you've got nothing to hide why then wouldn't you cooperate.”
The party says it finds it “suspicious” that Jordaan opted to skip the Zurich meeting, to attend a council meeting that lasted an hour on Thursday.
It says the move has raised more questions than answers.
Jordaan has not been available for comment.
