PORT ELIZABETH - SAFA PRESIDENT DANNY JORDAAN FAILS TO JOIN FIFA CONGRESS IN ZURICH SWITZERLAND

South African Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan has not travelled to Zurich to be a part of today’s Fifa extraordinary congress where a new leader will be elected.

Heads of football bodies worldwide have gathered to see what will hopefully be the start of a new era in football.

The new president will take over from disgraced Sepp Blatter who has been banned from football for six years.

Safa is being represented by two members today, CEO Dennis Mumble and NEC member Anastasia Tsichlas.

Jordaan, who also serves as the full time mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, did not go to Zurich after pressing matters stopped him from travelling to the Swiss capital, although according to the SA football federation, he did plan on attending.

Fifa has announced extensive reforms as it looks to clean the slate after months of corruption and bribery allegations, which have damaged the image of international football.

The reforms include term limits for top officials and the disclosure of their earnings with 89 percent of members in favour.

Other issues include a maximum of three, four year terms, a minimum of six female council members and no direct influence over Fifa business operations.
