IN an incident which shocked Nelson Mandela Bay police officers and medical emergency workers on Monday night, a teenage mother allegedly dumped her dead infant son in a rubbish bin.
The 18-year-old mother, who allegedly discarded the body of her child in a rubbish bin in New Brighton and then concealed it with rubbish bags, has been arrested and is expected to be charged with murder.
The arrest follows an initial confession by the young mother – who also sent police on a wild goose chase – and the subsequent discovery of the lifeless body in Norongo Street.
Bay Emergency Medical Services head Brenhan Metune said the service had responded to an emergency call on Monday night during which the caller had requested immediate medical assistance for a “non-responsive infant turning blue in colour”.
