Police in King William’s Town said on Friday a woman who had reported that she had been raped led them to a shack, where they found the accused in “deep slumber”.
Police said: “A 29-year-old woman was visited by her former boyfriend at Skiet Informal Settlement, Extension 7 Butterworth on Thursday 17 March 2016 at about 19:30”.
Police said the suspect demanded that the victim follow him to his shack.
“The victim refused saying that she has a protection order against him and she was no longer his girlfriend”.
The 29-year-old suspect then dragged the woman to his shack, where he allegedly threatened and raped her.
“As the suspect was heavily drunk, he became drowsy and fell asleep. The victim then got a chance to run to Butterworth Police Station where she reported the rape”.
Police said they accompanied the complainant and she showed them where the suspect was. They found the suspect in “deep slumber and snoring”.
“He was awoken and arrested. He is due to appear before the Butterworth Magistrate Court on Tuesday 22 March 2016 on a charge of rape and contempt of court as he violated the protection order,” police said.
