A 32-year-old alleged gang member appeared in the Port Elizabeth magistrate's court on Friday on a charge of attempted murder.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the suspect, Damian Kammies, was charged with shooting at a 30-year-old man in Scauderville in February.
Naidu said a motor vehicle was damaged in the shooting but no-one was injured. Kammies was arrested at his home on Thursday by members of a task team which had been set up to combat gang violence in the Northern Areas.
The matter was postponed until April 4 and the suspect will remain in custody. Naidu said when the gang member was arrested on Thursday at his home in Schauderville he was actually out on bail in another matter.
“He was allegedly involved in a shooting incident in January last year. He will be back in court for that matter on April 29,” said Naidu.
