KWAZAKHELE, Port Elizabeth -- President Jacob Zuma is expected to arrive in Port Elizabeth on Thursday as the election roadshow gains ground ahead of the ANC's election manifesto this weekend.
ANC supporters in Kwazakhele have had an early start to the morning.
Governing party officials such as ANC Head of Campaigns, Nomvula Mokonyane, were also out in the streets greeting hopeful supporters.
The largest city in the Eastern Cape and one of South Africa's major centres, Port Elizabeth, is set to be a significant battleground in the upcoming local government elections.
The official opposition, DA and the governing ANC, will face off with hopes to win the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality.
It may be a coastal city but PE is anything but an idyllic town. Unemployment is rife and service delivery leaves much to be desired.
It has also been dogged by poor governance corruption, maladministration and gang violence.
Over the years, amid a series of scandals, the ruling party’s support has dwindled and the DA now has set its sights on winning the metro.
The ANC will, however, not take this lying down and its called on its trump card Danny Jordaan to try and help it win.
His opposite number is Athol Trollip of the DA, who’s crying foul, accusing Jordaan of failing to make good on any of his promises.
However the wind blows, the election outcome here is too close to call.
