THE man accused of crashing into and killing NMMU student Jamie Baartez, 19, appeared briefly in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The case was postponed. Amos Sinyanya, 28, of Motherwell, is charged with driving without a valid driver’s licence, as well as culpable homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol.
He had only a learner’s licence, now forfeited.
He was allegedly speeding on the wrong side of the M4 in a BMW when he hit Baartez, who died while being treated.
Siphokazi Babela and Nomfundo Booi, passengers in the car, have turned state witness. Sinyanya is out on R3 000 bail. His case was postponed to July 26.
