Commuters across the Eastern Cape will be stranded on Friday as several taxi operators descend on Bhisho to hand over a memorandum of grievance to the premier’s office.
Taxi bosses said they have been operating without permits for more than a year due to the fact that transport MEC Weziwe Tikana refuses to issue operating licences.
“We respect our commuters for the loyal and continuous support they have given us. However‚ circumstance pushes us into such a position‚” said Port Elizabeth and District Taxi Association chairman Mnikelo Ntantiso.
“We can no longer tolerate this and we must speak a language that the government will understand because of one person.
“We apologise to our commuters for tomorrow’s action.”
