PORT ELIZABETH - HIJACKING / MURDER TRAGEDY VICTIM'S NAME RELEASED

Port Elizabeth police have released the name of the single father from Mthatha who was shot dead execution style during a hijacking in Port Elizabeth on Saturday night.

His female companion was raped by the attackers.

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, says the deceased was 28 year-old NMMU student Thambani Ngwelazi and that police are still searching for his killers.

Col. Naidu told AlgoaFM News that police had found the abandoned VW Polo Vivo,  that was hijacked from Ngwelazi and his companion, in Kwazakhele last night.

Police are now conducting forensic investigations on the vehicle as they try and make a breakthrough in the case.

The students were hijacked by a gang of at least six suspects outside the Varsity Park student residence in North End.

They were bundled into the boot of the Polo Vivo and driven to Brighton beach where Ngwelazi was shot dead.

His 21-year-old female friend was raped then later released.
