SAPS Mount Road detectives arrested three alleged housebreaking suspects during the early hours of Friday morning.
It is alleged that during the period of July to September 2016, the complainant was overseas when his house was broken into in Newton Park. Upon his return last week, he discovered that most of his household content including his antique furniture was stolen. Three vehicles (a VW Golf, an Opel Kadette and a Opel Monza) were also stolen. The estimated value of all the household content and the vehicles are about R500 000.
On Thursday, 22 September 2016, police received information about the whereabouts of possible suspects. The information was speedily followed up and a 21-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man was arrested in Kamma Park while a third suspect (29) was arrested in Sidwell.
Since the theft, the two vehicles (an Opel Monza and a Opel Kadett) were already stripped of its parts and sold for scrap metal. The VW Golf is still missing. Police have and are still recovering some of the stolen items however the antique furniture is yet to be recovered.
Police are appealing to second hand dealerships to contact them if they have bought any antique furniture in the last three months.
Information may be communicated to Detective Lieutenant Colonel Alvira Van Staden at SAPS Mount Road on 082 319 8424. All information supplied will be treated as confidential. Buying or dealing in stolen property is an offence and those found to be in possession of stolen property will be charged and prosecuted.
