PORT ELIZABETH - POLICE RECOVER CAR JUST MINUTES AFTER IT WAS STOLEN IN KABEGA PARK

Port Elizabeth  police arrested 3 suspects just minutes after the car was stolen in Kabega Park this afternoon.

Three suspected car thieves were arrested within minutes after stealing a motor vehicle in Kabega Park this afternoon.

It is alleged that at about 13:15 an off duty police reservist, W/.O Stephen Fourie from Walmer spotted the three suspects tampering with cars at the Glenroy Shopping mall in Walker Drive.
As the reservist was monitoring their movements, they managed to open a Toyota Corolla.

One suspect got into the vehicle while the other two suspects followed in a sliver VW Polo. The reservist immediately contacted the Flying Squad's Deon Fourie and Gerhard Van der Merwe.

Within minutes of the call, the officers spotted the Toyota Corolla approaching a stop street near the mall. As the suspect swerved to avoid police, he disregarded the stop sign and collided with a BMW vehicle. The suspect was apprehended.

While effecting the arrest, the alert officers noticed the VW Polo passing them. W/O Fourie chased after them with the reservist close behind in his private vehicle and the VW Polo was cornered about 200 metres away.

The three suspects aged 27, 29 and 52 years old were arrested and detained on a charge of theft of motor vehicle and are expected to appear in court soon.

An additional charge of reckless and/or neglegent driving was added to the suspect who drove the Toyota Corolla.
