The following successes were achieved during this weekend (28-31 October 2016) in the Mount Road policing cluster. A total of 151 suspects were arrested for various crimes including possession of drugs, robbery, drunken driving, possession of suspected stolen property, murder, attempted murder, theft from motor vehicle, house robbery, unlawful possession of firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition as well as possession of housebreaking implements. High density operations were held in all areas within the cluster.
On Friday, 28 October 2016, 14 suspects were arrested by the Operational Command Centre Detective Tracing Team. The suspects were positively linked by fingerprints on cases of house robbery, theft out of motor vehicle and housebreaking (residential) committed across the Mount Road policing cluster. All the suspects, aged between 20-45 years old will appear in court today (30/10).
On 28 October 2016 at about 21:45 Algoa Park members were busy following up on information on suspects when they were informed by a group of people in Missionvale that a firearm is kept at a shop belonging to a foreign national. The shop was surrounded and as police entered, the suspect was seen hiding the firearm in the freezer. A 9mm pistol was seized and the suspect arrested. A total of three firearms (Rossi.38 Revolver, Glock firearm and a 9mm pistol) and 2 suspects were seized during this weekend on charges of unlawful possession of firearms.
A total of 17 people were arrested for drunken driving cases this weekend. Twenty two people were also arrested for drug related cases. . Suspects were charged for either possession of drugs or dealing in drugs. The arrests were effected during routine patrols and stop-and-search operations.
