EASTERN CAPE - FORT BEAUFORT POLICE STATION CLOSED DUE TO "TOO MANY SAFETY RISKS"

The Department of Labour has effectively shut down the Fort Beaufort police station due to too many safety risks at the station in Campbell Street.

According to a statement from provincial police management on Tuesday the Department of Labour issued a notice to the Station Commander on Monday highlighting a leaking roof and electrical dangers.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills, said that the police station has since been moved to the Commando building in Fort Beaufort from where policing services will be provided.

She said that meetings will be held in Fort Beaufort with roleplayers and the Department of Public Works on how best to address the situation as speedily as possible.

Mills said the Fort Beaufort Police Station has been on the list with the Department of Public Works for renovation and upgrade for a number of years.
