Excellent team work and co-ordination between the K9 Unit and members of Flying Squad resulted in the speedy arrests of 3 alleged housebreaking suspects.
It is alleged that on Sunday 26/05 at approximately 13:00 members from Flying Squad and K9 were alerted to a possible housebreaking at a power station in Lawson Street, Sydenham.
On arrival they noticed a hole in the fence which led into a building of a power station. The lock of the door was broken and the members suspected that the alleged housebreakers were still inside the premises.
The key holder of the main building opened the premises and allowed them access into the property. The members shouted and warned the suspects to come out.
When there was no response, police dog Max was released. The dog apprehended two suspects. The third suspects who was hiding on a boiler was arrested by the Flying Squad members. The suspects were stealing copper and had already removed some of the conductors.
The suspects were detained and will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrate court soon on a charge of housebreaking and theft.
