EASTERN CAPE - MAN SHOT AFTER DRAWING 9MM PISTOL ON POLICE FOLLOWING TAVERN INCIDENT

As the SAPS members at Maclear were busy with crime prevention duties during their night shift, they received a complaint of pointing of a firearm at a tavern.

As the members arrived at the complaint, the suspect ran away. The members chased him and it is alleged that when he got tired he drew his firearm on the members. The members shot and wounded him in the right leg. A 9mm Norinco pistol was recovered.

The Cluster Commander, Colonel Matshediso Gezani commended the members on the swift reaction and the confiscation of the firearm. Illegal fire-arms is seen in a very serious light by the SAPS and the confiscation there of can prevent future crime activities.
