The Eastern Cape boxing fraternity is mourning another death.
Boxing legend Reuben Matewu died at the age of 62 at Grey Hospital in King William’s Town after a short illness.
He excelled at boxing during the 1970s and retired in 1980.
He was famously known as a herbalist and a social commentator, particularly on radio stations.
Provincial Manager of Boxing South Africa, Phakamile Jacobs has described his death as a great loss.
“He was a good person. He never gave up, even after quitting professional boxing. He was an asset and he was encouraging other people to keep their bodies fit… a good person, our condolences to the family of Reuben Matewu.”
