PORT ELIZABETH - ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT NABBED IN DURBAN ROAD, KORSTEN BARELY HOURS AFTER CRIME


SAPS Gelvandale and the Anti-Gang Unit arrested one robbery suspect in Durban Road, Korsten, within hours after an alleged business robbery in Lorraine area.

It is alleged that on Thursday, 13 February 2020 at approximately 12:15, three suspects, one armed with firearm entered a business in Circular Drive, Lorraine.  As the suspects entered the shop they forced the guard and the three employees to the back of the store. The suspects emptied the cash registers and fled from the scene in a silver VW Polo.

Shortly after the robbery a description of the getaway vehicle was simulcast on police channels and at approximately 13:25 the vehicle was noticed at a filling station in Stanford Road.  The members managed to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle got out and ran away and in Durban Road, a 25-year-old suspect was arrested by members from the Anti-Gang Unit.

The VW Polo was confiscated and two suspects are still at large. The suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate court on Monday, 17 February 2020, on charges of business robbery.
