PORT ELIZABETH - WOOLIES FOOD STORE SHUTS IT DOORS AFTER 2ND EMPLOYEE TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

The management of the Woolworths Group has announced that its closed its Woolworths Food Store in the Access Park centre off Buffelsfontein Road, Port Elizabeth, after a second staff member tested positive for the Coronavirus.

Woolworths National spokesperson Kirsten Hewett told AlgoaFM News that they were notified on Friday night that another member of the Access Park store had tested positive for the virus and is currently in isolation at home, recovering.

The PE store reported its first case of an employee testing positive for the virus on Wednesday the 14th of April. That male employee is recovering at home in isolation and the store continued trading after a ‘deep clean’.

Hewett said, however, that in light of the second case and because they take the issue very seriously, they have closed the store until further notice.

She said that as an extra precaution, Woolworths would be doing another forensic deep clean of the store to ensure that it is safe for its employees to work in and customers to shop.

Hewett said the safety of their employees is of the highest priority and so the Access Park store team are all at home and self-isolating for 14 days.

She added that they are working closely with the Department of Health representatives in Port Elizabeth and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).

They will follow their own tracing process to identify any individuals or service providers who are required to take precautionary measures and they will contact them directly.

Hewett confirmed that all the other Woolworths stores in Port Elizabeth are open and trading.
