Freedom Front Plus founder Constand Viljoen has died on Friday.
The 86-year-old general was the head of the South African Defence Force during apartheid.
Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Groenewald said Viljoen gained the admiration of soldiers from "leading from the front" and taking strong action, an attitude he adopted from the Israeli army.
Groenewald said Viljoen died on his farm surrounded by family.
