PORT ELIZABETH - TEEN THUGS CAUGHT WITH ILLEGAL FIREARM AFTER ROBBING MAN OF CELLPHONE ON STANDFORD ROAD
Swift response by the Anti-Gang Unit members resulted in the arrest of two teenagers and the seizure of a firearm soon after a man was allegedly robbed in Bethelsdorp today, 09 June 2020.
It is alleged that at about 13:00, the 32-year-old complainant was standing on the corners of Rensburg and Standford Roads when the teenagers approached him and pointed a firearm at him. He was ordered to hand over his cellphone. The suspects then ran off.
The complainant flagged down patrolling Anti-Gang Unit members and reported the matter to them. The members took the complainant with them and went looking for the suspects.
The suspects were spotted at the bottom of Standford Road near an open field.
As soon as they saw the police vehicle, they started running.
One suspect was seen tossing a firearm in the bushes.
Both suspects were arrested and a revolver was recovered. The serial number had been filed off.
The stolen cellphone was recovered. The suspects aged 16 and 18 years old were detained on charges of armed robbery, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of prohibited firearm.
They are expected to appear in court soon.
