EASTERN CAPE - STOP & SEARCH OPS LEADS TO DISCOVERY OF 38 BAGS OF DAGGA VALUED AT R1 MILLION

Dutywa SAPS members and Mbashe Local Municipality Traffic Officers were applauded for the huge dagga recovery.

It is alleged that the law enforcement members arrested a 54-year old man for dealing in dagga on Friday, 23 October 2020 at about 10: 00 at Dutywa CBD.

The suspect was driving a quantum and a trailer, loaded with bags when members who were patrolling became suspicious and stopped the quantum.

The bags that were in the trailer were opened and it was discovered that the 38 bags were full of dagga weighing 745,2kg with an estimated street value of R1 000 000 (one million rand).

The suspect was from Mount Frere enroute to Port Elizabeth. The 54-year old man will appear before the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 October 2020 on a charge of dealing in dagga.

Eastern Cape Police Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga applauded both Dutywa Police and Mbashe Local Municipality Traffic Officers for tremendous work in making sure that drugs are removed from the community.  “Proliferation of drugs remains SAPS priority as drugs have been identified as crime generators. The seizure of this dagga is commendable as this is one of the biggest dagga busts in a while in the province”, she said.
