PORT ELIZABETH - 2 ARRESTED AFTER ANGRY MOB CAUSE DEATH OF 50 YEAR OLD MAN ACCUSED OF HOUSEBREAKING

Two suspects have been arrested for the murder of a 50-year-old man in a mob-justice incident in Port Elizabeth.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the men, aged 34 and 35, were arrested on Tuesday for the murder of Goodman Gegese in Motherwell on the 29th of December last year.

It’s alleged that Gegese was taken from his house in New Town in Motherwell at around 01h30 that day by an angry mob.

They accused him of committing housebreakings in the area.

Colonel Naidu says Gegese was severely assaulted and thereafter brought back to his residence and dumped in his front yard where he passed away.

Intensive investigations were conducted in the area by Motherwell detective, Warrant Officer Marrilyn Jungli and her persistence paid off when the two suspects were arrested.

Further arrests are expected.

Both suspects will appear in the Motherwell magistrate’s court on Thursday on charges of kidnapping and murder.

Motherwell Station Commander, Brigadier Michael Solani, applauded the arrests and appealed to the community of Motherwell to work with the police and to report all criminal behaviour to law enforcement and to stop acts of vigilantism.
