A 31-year-old Kwazakele man was arrested during the early hours of Saturday morning, by NMB District Crime Combatting Unit members as they were conducting patrols in the area.
It is alleged at about 00:15 police were in Qeqe Street when they noticed an unknown male walking with a backpack during curfew time.
As they stopped next to him, he tried to run away.
The members chased after him and apprehended him.
While searching him, he became aggressive and started resisting.
A firearm fell from his pants.
Two mandrax tablets and about R18 000 cash was found in his backpack.
The suspect was detained on charges possession of suspected stolen money; illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as the Disaster Management Act – failure to confine himself to his residence.
Ownership of the firearm is yet to be determined.
He will appear in the New Brighton magistrates’ court on Monday, 18/01.
