The Amathole Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu has condemned an incident in which a lifeless body of a 22-year-old man was found at Ngcingwane Village, Dutywa last night, 14 September 2021.
Police received a report about a body that was lying next to the road.
They rushed to the scene and on arrival the found the body with injuries.
Further investigation revealed that the deceased was beaten by community members after he and a group of men allegedly attempted to rob a shop.
They ran away after the shop owner alerted the community who gave chase to the suspects and caught up with the man and beat him to death.
Case of murder has been opened for investigation and no arrest has been made yet.
"Those who take the law into their own hands will face the full might of the law. Police will not rest until the perpetrators are behind bars," concluded Brigadier Xakavu.
