GQEBERHA - GANGS ACROSS THE METRO DEALT A BLOW AS 3 ARRESTED AND FIREARMS CONFISCATED

Infiltrating gang hotspot areas and monitoring their movements resulted in the confiscation of three firearms and arrest of three suspects in separate incidents.

During the early hours of yesterday morning, 5 October 2021 at about 01:20, Anti-Gang Unit members were patrolling in William Slabbert Street in Timothy Valley when they noticed a motorbike riding in front of them.

As it turned into Mpuku Street, members pulled it over. A 30-year-old male was questioned and admitted to the officials that he has a firearm in his possession.

A pistol and an empty magazine was confiscated. The motorbike was also seized as it was suspected to be stolen.

The suspect was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, possession of suspected stolen motor bike and for contravening the Disaster Management Act – failure to confine himself to his residence during curfew.

Also on 04 October 2021 at about 16:00, Anti-Gang Unit members received and followed up on information of possible firearms at a house in Bedford Street in Neave Township.

Two suspects between the ages of 25 and 30 were arrested and two firearms seized.

All three firearms will be sent to forensics for analysis.

Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Brigadier Tandiswa Kupiso commended the AGU members for ensuring that criminals have no space to move.’ Criminals must never undermine the ability of our police officers and we will continuously be in their space in order to ensure the safety of our communities,’ added Brig Kupiso.
