GQEBERHA - KWADWESI MAN BEATS 22 YEAR OLD GIRLFRIEND TO DEATH AFTER SHE ATTACKED HIM WITH AN EMPTY BOTTLE

A 30-year-old male is in custody for the alleged murder of his 22-year-old girlfriend on Monday, 31 January 2022 in Kwadwesi.

It is alleged that on the abovementioned date at approximately 16:00, Siyamthanda Tiyiwe (22) was with her boyfriend and other friends in Ginwala Street, where they were drinking together.  

Ms Tiyiwe and her boyfriend had an argument whereby she allegedly attacked him with an empty bottle. 

He retaliated and thereafter severely assaulted her.

While waiting for the ambulance, Ms Tiyiwe passed away due to the nature of injuries. 

The suspect was tracked down at a nearby tavern and arrested. He is detained on a charge of murder.

He is expected to appear in the New Brighton magistrate court on Wednesday 2 February 2022.

The Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Brigadier Tandiswa Kupiso has strongly condemned the murder and added that ‘young girls and women are not toys and punching bags for the boys and men, they have equal rights to freedom of choice regarding their lives. It is the responsibility of us all, South Africans to end the culture of abuse and violence perpetrated on our women and children.
