GQEBERHA - MUNICIPALITY EXPLAINS DISCOLOURATION OF WATER IN NEWTON PARK & MALABAR

The Municipality wishes to update residents on the progress regarding the discoloured water.

    1.Newton Park:

A team has been working methodically through the area north of Cape Road and unfortunately, the water distribution system has to be flushed to clear the discoloured water.

Thereafter, it can be confirmed that the discolouration comes from the settlement of suspended matter that has settled in reservoirs.

As a result of the drought, the regular emptying of the reservoirs has caused this to be drawn into the reticulation system.

This exercise will continue on the southern side of Cape Road tomorrow, 9th February 2022, until the system is cleared.

    2.Malabar:

This area has also experienced discolouration of water and as in the case of Newton Park, a team is working in the area.

A pipe burst has occured in the area and caused a delay. Once fixed, the team will proceed to flush and clear any remaining discoloured water.

In addition, the teams are also checking the control valve strainers for any blockages and sediment that could be causing discolouration.
