SAPS Flying Squad members reacted on information about an armed suspect in New Brighton on Tuesday, 14 February 2023 and arrested a 30-year-old male suspect when he attempted to evade arrest.
This followed after the SAPS members followed up on information in Gqamlana Street, New Brighton at about 22:00.
On spotting the approaching police, the suspect ran into a nearby tavern, but the police members cornered him inside the main living area attached to the tavern.
On searching him he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and seven (7) rounds of ammunition.
He was arrested and charged for the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and will be appearing before the New Brighton Magistrates Court on Thursday, 16 February 2023, to face the charges
