A student protect broke out at Nelson Mandela University on Friday morning with students blocking the University Way entrance to the South Campuses.
NMU later released a statement claiming the following:
"The University understands that students are protesting the partial funding of students in programmes with less than 60 credits.
The situation is being closely monitored & further updates will be shared on the Uni’s official communication platforms.
Management is engaging the SRC on the issues that led to the protest, with a view to finding workable solutions. The issues relate to National Students Financial Aid Scheme funding, including challenges with the partial funding of students in programmes with less than 60 credits.
Protesting students have dispersed as per the enforcement of the interdict. The traffic circle on University Way and Gomery Avenue has been cleared and all access points to campuses remain open."
