BETHELSDORP - ALLEGED GANG MEMBER ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH MURDER

Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 26-year-old alleged gang member in the city’s northern areas, Eastern Cape police said.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the alleged gangster was arrested near his home in Bethelsdorp on Friday afternoon.

It was alleged that a group of people were standing in the driveway of a house in Salsoneville in July last year when unknown people approached the group and started shooting at them.

Denise Rollison, 28, was fatally wounded in the head, and Wayne Carelse, 25, and Nazier Louwtjie, 27, were wounded in the face and leg respectively.

“In August 2015, 24-year-old Jody Williams was arrested and charged for murder and two counts of attempted murder. He appeared in court and remains in police custody. The case was remanded to January 26,” Naidu said.

The man arrested on Friday was expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Naidu said both men were believed to belong to the same gang.
