Fighting crime is a shared responsibility. The police, the community and the business sector need to work hand-in-hand to combat crime effectively in the Uitenhage precinct. The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects and the recovery of stolen property.
Police officials in the Uitenhage Cluster have arrested more than 165 suspects during crime prevention operations that were conducted over the past weekend from Friday, 12 February 2016 until 06:00, this morning, Monday, 15 February 2016. 59 Traffic fines were issued valued at almost R30 000 during the period. Arrests made varied from assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, robbery, assault common and four (4) arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor. 54 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes. 27 Suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of drugs. All suspects are due to appear in the Magistrates Courts in and around Uitenhage today, Monday, 15 February 2016.
Four (4) suspects, between the ages of 18 and 32-years-old, will appear in the Addo Regional Court today, Monday, 15 February 2016, on a charge of dealing in mandrax. The four suspects were arrested on Friday, 12 February 2016, during an intelligence driven operation with various SAPS role players involved. Police members confiscated 171 mandrax tablets worth R10 275-00 and cash valued at R9 154-00. The arrests were made at a residential address in Valencia in Addo at 05:30 on Friday, 12 February 2016.
