NMB METRO SAYS NOTHING SUSPICIOUS ABOUT DANNY JORDAAN'S CANCELLATION OF STATE OF THE METRO ADDRESS

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says there's nothing suspicious about Mayor Danny Jordaan cancelling his State of the Metro Address.

The cancellation came on the day of Fifa's confirmation that South Africa paid a $10 million bribe to help secure the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

Although not personally implicated in the allegation, Jordaan, who still heads up the South African Football Association (Safa), was part of the Local Organising Committee at the time.

The municipality says the Democratic Alliance (DA)’s claim that Jordaan cancelled his State of the Metro address ‘indefinitely’ is absurd.

Metro spokesperson Kupido Baron says Jordaan plans to host the event in May.

Baron says there's nothing to hide, adding Jordaan will highlight the metro's successes, which include increasing the cash reserves from R460 million to more than R1.6 billion.

Jordaan’s spokesperson Mlungisi Ncame has been unavailable for comment regarding the Fifa allegations.

The Safa president has previously said his football job is a hobby.
