PORT ELIZABETH - CAN EP RUGBY UNION BE SAVED FROM LIQUIDATION?

The Eastern Cape Sports Confederation has advised the Eastern Province Rugby fraternity to put their differences aside, and join forces to save the EP Rugby Union from final liquidation. This as the cash-strapped union has been placed under provisional liquidation.

Sports Confederation president, Mkhuseli Magada, says the proposed Special General Council meeting aimed at removing EPRU President, Cheeky Watson, should not be a priority.

“There will be no general meeting if we are liquidated. I always say that and I repeat again, if we focus on this general meeting … we can have that general council meeting and whatsoever takes place - that has no bearing on the obligation given by the court. Ours is to make sure that we prioritise. Our priority is to make sure we are not liquidated.”

Meanwhile, Despatch Rugby Club has declared a dispute between themselves and the Eastern Province Rugby Union in the Port Elizabeth High Court. They are not happy with the mother body's decision to send a team from PE Police as the province's representatives at the national interclub tournament later in 2016.

They claim that the fixtures were not concluded last season.

Despatch were top of the log when the fixtures came to an abrupt end.

According to the club's lawyer Andre Vlok, negotiations to try to resolve the issue were unsuccessful.
