Murder accused Christopher Panayiotou’s third attempt at bail continues today, with him citing ‘new evidence’ as his reason.
He has been denied bail twice.
The Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court has heard that investigating officer Kanna Swanepoel has evidence that suggests that Christopher started planning Jayde Panayiotou murder in November 2014, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
Panayiotou said in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Thursday that he is being humiliated on social media, which is affecting the outcome of the trial. The court has dismissed this, saying it cannot accept this as ‘new facts’.
He said the State’s case against him is flawed, and that the State’s main witness was forced to make a confession.
Panayiotou claims his rights were violated when he was arrested and that state witness Luthando Siyoli was driven out of town, beaten by police and forced to make a confession, reported EWN.
The prosecution has also denied other statements made by Panayiotou.
