PORT ELIZABETH - PANAYIOTOU BAIL POSTPONEMENT AND A CONSPIRACY CARTOON

The bail application of murder accused Christopher Panayiotou has been postponed until Friday in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court.

The application has been postponed by Magistrate Abigail Beeton to give the state’s advocate, Marius Stander, enough time to look at outstanding documentation.

During the court proceedings, prosecutor Marius Stander said the state needed more time to access documentation. Stander argued that to proceed would not be fair as he would need to prepare as he would have to deal with two sides- Panayiotou's bail application and the new information the defence has brought before the court.

Stander also questioned why the defence left out the documents used during their heads of arguments when the first bail application was declined by High Court in July last year.

Upon returning from a closed meeting with the state and defence in the chambers, Magistrate Beeton said that it would not be ethical to continue without all the documentation in hand.

Beeton also stated that she needed time to go through the documents before she granted her verdict.

Panayiotou is accused of orchestrating the murder of his wife‚ Jayde, in April last year. This is his third bail attempt.

Ahead of Panayiotou's bail application, cartoon booklets were distributed and placed on the bunks of the gallery, done allegedly by a friend of the Panayiotou family.

The booklets depict conspiracy theories accusing a family friend of framing Panayiotou for the murder of his wife.

The family of Jayde was not happy with the distributed material.
