EASTERN CAPE - THE EC TAXI PROTEST AND STRIKE IN PICTURES

Photos of earlier mayhem and riots in the P.E area and Eastern Cape during the taxi strike. Eastern Cape have arrested 19 people who were allegedly involved in violence part of a province-wide taxi strike. The protest - over permits - operating permits has left hundreds of commuters stranded. It has forced the Eastern Cape education department to postpone exams because learners cannot be ferried to school.The police's Khaya Tonjeni says several people are in custody for arson, public violence and malicious damage to property.
