PORT ELIZABETH - NO STONES WERE THROWN AT MAIMANE DURING CAMPAIGN IN MISSIONVALE AND KWADWESI SAYS DA

The DA has denied that stones were thrown at national leader Mmusi Maimane during his visit in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.

Maimane’s Campaign Communications Manager, Kristoff Adelbert, says says a stone was thrown at a car driven by a DA councillor in KwaDwesi, when he spoke to what he described as disgruntled crowd, made up of mainly ANC members.

Adelbert says, “Upon their arrival, somebody knocked a concrete brick into his car. It was absolutely not a stone throwing incident, and Mmusi Maimane was not even there yet. The second incident was in Kouga. Mmusi Maimane and Athol Trollip attended a public meeting there. There was a small 5-year-old child who, in an act of playfulness, through a stone at a car that was passing by. It was absolutely not malicious.”

Adelbert insist there was never a stone-throwing incident.

“We always have police at our event. The police have asked us to let them know about events, especially where the leader, in the interest of protection.”

On Wednesday, Maimane went on a door-to-door campaign in Missionvale and KwaDwesi on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth, accompanied by mayoral candidate, Athol Trollip.
