PORT ELIZABETH - PROSECUTORS SAY PANAYIOTOU'S CELLPHONE SHOWS RECORD OF MURDER PLOT

Prosecutors say that Christopher Panayiotou's cellphone records show that he plotted his wife's murder.

The State says it needs more time to retrieve recovered cellphone data from Panayiotou's phone from the US.

Closing arguments in his bail application were postponed to 10 June in the Port Elizabeth magistrate's court.

This is his third bail application.

Panayiotou is accused of planning the abduction and murder of his wife, Jayde, in April last year.

The State claims that middleman Thando Siyoni had confessed to his girlfriend that Panayiotou had asked him to find a hitman to kill Jayde.

The State has added some new facts to its case, including a letter Jayde had written a few months before she was killed.

In it she talks of her unhappy marriage.

The State alleges Panayiotou was having an affair since July 2012.

Panayiotou's advocate Terry Price argues that if Siyoni's evidence is thrown out of court, the state's case will be  very weak.

Over the past few weeks, the case has been met with several delays.

These include outstanding documents from both the defence and the State, as well as absenteeism.
