Two suspects aged 36 and 39 were arrested in Parliament Street, Central by patrolling SAPS Humewood members.
It is alleged that at about 08:45, police spotted a metallic grey VW Polo parked, facing a wrong direction.
They approached the vehicle and found the males, one standing next to the vehicle.
On searching them, two firearms (both 9mm) were recovered.
Both males were detained on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
One firearm was reported stolen in Walmer in May 2021 while ownership of the other firearm is still to be ascertained.
The VW Polo was also confiscated by police.
Detectives will be probing whether these suspects may be linked to other crimes in surrounding station areas.
