Police in the Uitenhage Cluster have arrested more than 129 suspects, through high density operations that were conducted over the past weekend. The operations were conducted from 18:00 on Friday, 3 June 2016 until 06:00, this morning, Monday, 6 June 2016. A total of 49 traffic fines were issued, with a value of more than R24 500. The suspects were arrested for charges relating to fraud, shoplifting, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft, possession of suspected stolen goods. 27 people were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession. Two (2) arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor. A total of 20 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes. Five liquor premises were visited in the Uitenhage area to ensure that they comply with the Liquor Act.
