SOUTH AFRICA - MTN SLASHES BROADBAND FIBRE PRICES IN HALF

Mobile network MTN says it has slashed its fibre bundle contract prices by 50% in a move to boost its competitiveness in the market.

Costs for MTN’s 24 month fibre products now range from a monthly subscription of R764 for 100GB at speeds of 20 Mbps to R1 699 for 1000GB of data at 100 Mbps.

MTN still doesn’t offer uncapped fibre broadband packages yet.

However, the company said it is ramping up its fibre offering across South Africa.

“The R12bn capital expenditure that MTN has committed in this financial year will bode well for our quest to build high performing networks and will bolster our ability to provide our customers with a seamless network experience,” said chief enterprise business officer at MTN Business, Alpheus Mangale .

MTN’s fibre network footprint currently extends to Gauteng, the Western Cape, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Eastern Cape.

MTN said that it has also cut the installation fee for its month-to-month contracts from R3 000 to R999.

Meanwhile, customers who sign up for 24 month contracts before October 1 2016 will receive free installation, a free router and bonus data bundles, said the company.
