PORT ELIZABETH - TRIO CONVICTED OF CHEQUE FRAUD AMOUNTING TO ALMOST R1 MILLION

Three people, aged between 30 and 47 have been sentenced in the Specialised Commercial Crimes court in Port Elizabeth for fraud.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Feni says they presented cloned cheques at various local Absa Bank branches amounting to R998 000.

She says 47-year-old Linda Adele Botha and 30-year-old Johnny Fernando Ferraz were each sentenced to four-years imprisonment, while 44-year-old Johannes Arnoldus Havenga was sentenced to three.

Captain Feni says the trio were arrested by the Hawks Commercial Crime unit on 29 April, the same day that they presented fictitious cheques.

The Hawks were alerted by the bank of the intended fraud and they were immediately arrested.
