PORT ELIZABETH - PE FINALLY RECEIVES PAPER TO PRINT VEHICLE LICENSE DISKS

After weeks of frustration for motorists around the country and in Port Elizabeth,  PE
Post offices have taken delivery of the specialised paper used to print vehicle license disks. Below is a press release via Marshall von Buchenroder, Shadow MEC for Transport:

Post offices in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (NMBM) yesterday took delivery of 14 000 sheets of the specialised paper used for the printing of vehicle licence disks, thanks to the intervention by the DA.

I reported two weeks ago that a country-wide shortage of specialised paper at licencing centres had spread to the Eastern Cape, particularly NMBM.  This meant “face-value” licence disks could not be printed.

I have been given the assurance that, apart from yesterday’s delivery to the NMBM, stock will be delivered to all licencing offices in the province from the Government Printers by the end of the week.

I, therefore, urge motorists to ensure that they renew their vehicle licences so they don’t fall foul of the law.

The DA is delighted that the bureaucratic bungling in this matter has been addressed.  A well-run DA government will never allow a situation to develop where citizens are forced to drive vehicles with expired licence disks.  Nor would we allow the economy to take a knock because car dealerships cannot sell and transfer vehicles.

Our provincial economy is in an extremely fragile state and every effort must be made to ensure that its wheels continue to turn smoothly.
