EASTERN CAPE - MOUNT FRERE POLICE BUST 3 WOMEN WITH DAGGA WORTH R50 000

Three suspected female drug peddlers believed to delivering about R50 000 worth of dagga to Cape Town on the weekend, had their trip cut short when they were pounced on by police during a sting operation in KwaBhaca (formerly Mount Frere) on Sunday.

The trio, aged between 24 and 33 were arrested in Mahamane village in the Tshungwana administrative area around 10am.

Mount Frere police spokesman Lieutenant Edith Mjoko said the suspects had hitched a lift from a Hyundai H100 which was ferrying passengers from several villagers to town.

However they stumbled upon a roadblock set up on the route by the police in collaboration with traffic officers and immigration officers.

“It was then that they asked the driver to stop and they alighted with their bags,” said Mjoko.

“They then walked into a nearby forest and when police followed them, found them with four big bags all filled with dagga. It [dagga] was being taken to Cape Town.”

She estimated the value of the stash to be around R50 000.

The three suspects are due in the Mount Frere Magistrate’s Court today on charges of possession of dagga.
