PORT ELIZABETH - 2 PATIENTS EVACUATED OFF SHIP AND HOSPITALIZED IN PE

At 19h55, Saturday, 22nd October, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated following a request for medical assistance from the 120 meter fish factory ship Desert Diamond reporting a female crew member suffering lower abdominal pains suspected to be Appendicitus.

Desert Diamond had proceeded towards Nelson Mandela Bay from fishing grounds and were 3 nautical miles East of the Port of Port Elizabeth Breakwater.

NSRI Port Elizabeth launched the sea rescue craft Eikos Rescuer IV and on arrival on the scene the female, a 41 year old, found in a stable condition, was transferred aboard the sea rescue craft and brought to shore where she was transported to hospital for further treatment.

Desert Diamond returned to sea to continue fishing at fishing grounds.

On Monday, 24th October, it was confirmed that the female had been released from hospital.

On Monday, 24th October, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew, were activated at 18h11, following a request for medical assistance from the 120 meter fish factory ship Desert Diamond reporting a crewman onboard, their 55 year old head chef, from Cape Town, suffering a neck and back injury reportedly sustained in a fall.

Desert Diamond had returned from fishing grounds and were 3 nautical miles off-shore East of the Port of Port Elizabeth Breakwater.

NSRI Port Elizabeth launched the Sea Rescue craft Eikos Rescuer IV accompanied by an EC Government Health EMS rescue paramedic.

On arrival on the scene NSRI rescuers and the EMS rescue paramedic were transferred onboard the casualty ship and the patient was treated for a neck and back injury and secured into a Stokes basket stretcher and transferred onboard the sea rescue craft and brought into Port and he has been transported to hospital by EMS ambulance in a stable condition.
