Authorities swooped on a house in the upmarket Port Elizabeth suburb of Lovemore Heights on Thursday morning to seize assets of suspects who are being detained on charges related to rhino poaching.
Three Zimbabwean nationals, Jabulani Ndlovu, Sikumbuza Ndlovu and Forget Ndlovu, were arrested in Grahamstown in June and remain in custody.
A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Tshepo Ndwalaza, says they have since secured a preservation order in the Port Elizabeth High Court, which was executed this morning.Ndwalaza says two women who are believed to be relatives of the suspects, were at the rented house during the early morning raid.
"We managed to confiscate a VW golf and a GTI."
We could not get the third car but will be following up on that"Apart from the two cars specified in the order, the authorities have also been authorised to seize R18 500 rand in cash and an unspecified amount in a bank account.
Ndwalaza says the respondents have the right to seek recourse in the courts."We have given them 14 days so that they can actually go and prove in court that they are indeed innocent on the allegations. If they don't come forward the assets will be auctioned" he said.
